New Year’s Eve

Originally uploaded by semunger

It’s the end of the year and the end of a decade and almost the end of my 40th year. So many things have happened in 2009. I was recollecting on them but most of them are depressing so I do not think I feel like posting them on a night to celebrate.

This evening I will be going over to a dear friend’s and meet up with other friends. We of course will take our knitting and possibly play games and eat munchies.

I will take my Daybreak and a pair of baby socks that I am working on as well. The baby socks are actually a pattern I have “written” in my head. They are super easy, toe-up ribbed-to-stay on baby socks.

I need to head out. Happy New Year!

my Daybreak

I am back to the the place I was when I ripped out the Daybreak on Sunday. I have introduced the second color (red) and will post some pics of this tomorrow but here is right before the red was added.  I will need to find a longer US 8 circular because the 24″ is not going to cut it for much longer.

New Year’s Eve is coming up and I hope I can get together with some friends that evening. I am struggling with some things and need to be surrounded by friends, if at all possible, and some knitting because this calms me.

Yesterday, while knitting, I watched Seven Pounds with Will Smith.  WOW!  This was a very moving movie.  I didn’t know exactly what to expect but when I told my good friend, Leslie, via email that I was going to watch it she said “better you than me.  I would be crying through the whole thing.”  I didn’t understand what she meant.  Until the end….when I was bawling!!!  But I would still watch it again. ( It is downloadable from Netflix.)

Today, on the recommendation of my good friend Susan, I am watching season 1 of Rescue Me.  I have never seen this series so I thought I would give it a shot.  I will knit and watch Rescue Me.

A typical Saturday . . .

I get together with several of my knitting friends at LambShoppe in Denver, CO on Saturdays.  It is a great bunch of people that I knit with.  I have made so many wonderful friends since moving to Denver in August.

Saturday afternoon at The LambShoppe

I started on Daybreak yesterday.  I tend to knit tight and it calls for a US 4 so I cast on with a US 5.  Today I am knitting along and was looking at it compared to the pics on Ravelry and the printed up pattern’s picture.   Mine was nowhere near the size it should have been for where I was at.  So I checked my guage.  Good grief!

Patterns says:  23 sts per 4″

I have 28 – 30 sts per 4″.

I frogged it and started again AFTER I did a gauge swatch with size 6, 7, and even 8’s.  And am now knitting the Daybreak on 8’s.  I will try to get a little further on it and then post a progress pic.

While I was knitting away at a too-tight-of-guage today, I watched Food, Inc. on Netflix.  This was very interesting.  I am not going to go vegan but it definitely opened up my eyes to the food corporations.

And last night while I was home knitting, I watched Critical Condition.  This is a documentary from PBS about underinsured in America.

My goal for 2010 is to try to blog more often.  Going to go knit some more now.
